Regional Advocacy Competitions
WRBLSA’s regional advocacy competitions provide law students across the Western Region with opportunities to sharpen their courtroom and appellate advocacy skills while competing alongside some of the strongest student advocates in the Region.
Constance Baker Motley Mock Trial Competition
Named in honor of trailblazing attorney, civil rights advocate, and jurist Constance Baker Motley, WRBLSA’s Mock Trial Competition provides law students with an opportunity to develop and demonstrate the skills required to effectively advocate in the courtroom.
The Regional Rounds bring together teams of four students from law schools across the Western Region to litigate a designated case in a simulated trial setting. Competitors take on the roles of attorneys and witnesses while developing comprehensive trial strategies and presenting their cases before panels of experienced attorneys and members of the judiciary.
Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition
Named in honor of legendary civil rights attorney and United States Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, WRBLSA’s Moot Court Competition challenges students to develop the research, writing, and oral advocacy skills essential to effective appellate practice.
The Regional Rounds bring together teams of two students from law schools across the Western Region. Competitors analyze complex legal issues, conduct extensive legal research, prepare persuasive appellate briefs, and present oral arguments before panels of practicing attorneys, judges, and legal scholars.

Compete on the National Stage
For the teams that rise to the top of the Regional Rounds, the journey continues at the National Competitions. The top three teams from each WRBLSA regional advocacy competition will advance to the national rounds of their respective competitions, earning the opportunity to represent the Western Region alongside the best student advocates from across the country.
Advancing to the National Competition is more than an individual achievement—it is an opportunity to carry the strength, excellence, and legacy of the Western Region onto the national stage. Teams will compete against top advocates from across the National Black Law Students Association while putting their legal research, writing, strategy, and oral advocacy skills to the ultimate test.
