SANKOFA: Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future

Join us in Las Vegas for the 58th Annual Western Region Black Law Students Association (WRBLSA) Regional Convention, a powerful celebration of legacy, leadership, and Black excellence in the legal field.

Guided by the Akan principle SANKOFA, meaning “go back and fetch it,” this year’s convention invites us to honor the wisdom of our ancestors while advancing the future of Black legal excellence.

Experience a weekend filled with impactful discussions, professional development, and celebration, featuring confirmed guests such as Angela Rye, acclaimed political strategist and advocate, and Alpha Brady, Executive Director of the American Bar Association—with more distinguished speakers to be announced.

Convention highlights include:

  • Career panels with top corporate counsel, judges, and law firm partners

  • Bar prep and exam readiness workshops to equip you for success

  • Moot court and mock trial competitions showcasing student advocacy at its best

  • A regional job and career fair connecting students with premier employers

  • And the signature Legacy Gala, an elegant evening honoring trailblazers who embody service, excellence, and progress within our community

This is more than a conference—it’s a movement. The 58th Annual WRBLSA Convention is where our heritage meets our horizon, empowering every attendee to lead, uplift, and leave a legacy.

Las Vegas awaits—join us as we celebrate SANKOFA: returning to our roots to rise even higher.

Mock Trial & Moot Court Competitions:
Building Confidence, Craft, and Community

The WRBLSA Competitions Program is one of the most historic and impactful pillars of the National Black Law Students Association, empowering students to develop the advocacy, analytical, and leadership skills that define great lawyers.

For over five decades, NBLSA’s Thurgood Marshall Moot Court, and Constance Baker Motley Mock Trial competitions have served as training grounds for future judges, litigators, and corporate attorneys, offering participants an unparalleled opportunity to sharpen their craft before panels of esteemed attorneys and judges.

Competing at the Regional Convention is not only a chance to earn recognition and advance to the National Finals, but also to join a legacy of excellence, confidence, and community.

These competitions are a celebration of Black brilliance, a platform to showcase talent, and a launchpad for the next generation of legal trailblazers.
